How do I calculate my minimum wage?
To calculate minimum wage earnings: multiply your hourly rate by hours worked per week to get your weekly pay. Multiply weekly pay by 52 for annual earnings. For example, 37.5 hours × £12.21 = £457.88/week × 52 = £23,809/year.
What if my employer pays me less than minimum wage?
It is illegal to pay workers below the National Minimum Wage. If you believe you are being underpaid, you can report it to HMRC using their online form. HMRC investigates complaints and can force employers to pay back arrears and impose fines. You can also contact ACAS for advice.
Does minimum wage include tips?
No — tips, gratuities, service charges and cover charges do not count towards minimum wage. Your basic hourly rate (before tips) must meet the minimum wage. However, if tips are paid through payroll they form part of your total pay, but your employer cannot use them to top up pay to the minimum wage threshold.
