For questions about how counters are calculated, please read our Methodology page first โ€” it covers the calculation formula, data sources, and known limitations in detail.

Common Questions

Why does the counter show a different number from what I expected?

BritClock counters are calculated projections from official annual statistics โ€” they are not live event trackers. The displayed number is the statistical average implied by the most recently published annual total, divided into a per-second rate and multiplied by elapsed time since 1 January. It represents what the official annual figure predicts should have occurred by this point in the year, on average. For full details of the calculation, see our Methodology page.

I think one of your statistics is wrong โ€” how do I report it?

Please use the contact form above and select "Factual correction" as the subject. Include the page URL, the specific statistic you believe is incorrect, and the correct figure along with the source (ideally a direct link to the official publication). We investigate all substantive correction reports and update figures promptly if an error is confirmed.

Can I use BritClock data in an article, report, or presentation?

The underlying data on BritClock is sourced from official UK government publications which are published under the Open Government Licence and/or Crown Copyright. You are free to use these statistics โ€” but please cite the original source (e.g. "Home Office Crime Statistics, year ending March 2024") rather than simply citing BritClock. We ask that you also include a reference to britclock.co.uk if you are using our specific counter format or visual representation. If you have a press or academic enquiry, please use the contact form above.
